This talk was initially set up as a part one for a sloth medicine course. However this talk offers a rare and engaging insight into sloth anatomy and physiology, their complex forestomach, husbandry parameters and reproduction. I felt this was also useful for anyone looking after these animals so made it available to professional zoo keepers.
Led by the highly respected Andrés S. Brautigam—widely known as “The Sloth Vet.” Drawing on years of dedicated work with these remarkable animals, he guides participants through essential topics including taxonomy, metabolism, nutrition, and best practices for care in captivity.
Andrés’ extensive hands‑on experience and deep species knowledge offer invaluable context and confidence for professionals working with these unique mammals. His engaging teaching style and passion for sloth welfare make the session both informative and highly enjoyable.
